Chu (N6) medium is defined to improve the formation, growth and differentiation of pollen callus in rice. The concentration of ammonium proved to be crucial for the development of callus. The optimum -concentration NH4+ is 7.0 mM (equal to 3.5 mM (NH4)2SO4). Higher concentrations of ammonium drastically inhibited the growth and -differentiation of the rice pollen. The concentration of KNO3 and the other medi-um compo-nents did not affect the development of the -callus.Chu (N6) medium is defined to improve the formation, growth and differentiation of pollen callus in rice.
